Hellenic National Oceanographic Data Centre – HNODC

The Hellenic National Oceanographic Data Centre (HNODC) was established in 1986, in the frame of the cooperation of Greece with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO. It is a national agency, part of the international network of national oceanographic data centres operating within the framework of the IOC’s Committee on International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE).

Primary objective of HNODC is the safeguarding and the effective management of oceanographic data and information including acquiring, formatting, quality controlling, cataloguing, archiving, disseminating and exchanging of marine data and information.

HNODC operates within the framework of the Institute of Oceanography of the HCMR and manages oceanographic data collected from Hellenic public and private organizations as well as data that are being exchanged within the International Network of Oceanographic Data Centres in the framework of participation of HNODC in European and International Projects.

The Data and Information Management System of HNODC is based on relational data bases and provides on-line access to data and its information, research cruises, monitoring systems and marine environmental data.
