Spyridon Velanas holds a diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. He has been working at the Institute of Oceanography since 2016 as a member of the technical team of the POSEIDON infrastructure. His main activities are related to the use and maintenance of the scientific equipment of the infrastructure. 

More specifically, one of his responsibilities is the maintenance and upgrading of the observational buoys network, and he has participated in several research cruises with the HCMR’s R/V AEGAEO for this purpose. He is also a member of the gliders piloting team and he is responsible for their maintenance as well as for their mission preparation and realization.
