Mr. Stylianos Alexakis received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering from the De Montfort University (UK) on 2001. He received his Master of Science degree from Loughborough University (UK) in Digital Communication Systems on 2003. His Master’s thesis was the development of an Autonomous Http Server Measuring System based on the 8-bit Rabbit 3000 microprocessor. He has been a special technical scientist of the Institute of Oceanography of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) since December 2005. He has participated in several research projects of HCMR and he has 5 publications in peer-reviewed international journals, 3 announcements in international conferences and 8 announcements in national conferences. His scientific achievements are the integration of marine sensors in fixed and mobile monitoring stations and systems for continuous surveillance of the state of the sea. He has performed upgrade of underwater radioactivity sensors for continuous operation in sequential buffering mode to achieve long term monitoring. His expertise is the software development for programming smart marine sensors as well as to develop algorithms for their integration in existing networks to provide data in real-time mode using mobile internet technology.
