NIKOLAOS LAMPADARIOU
Position: Research Director
Expertise: Biologist Oceanographer
Department: Biological Oceanography
Premises: crete
Dr. Nikolaos Lampadariou graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1990 with a degree of Biology, completed his Msc in Marine Biology at the University of Crete in 1993 and his PhD in Marine Ecology also at the University of Crete in 2001. Currently he is employed as an Associate Researcher (Researcher, Grade A') at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research. During the last 20 years he has been involved in a variety of research projects, most of which have been funded by the EU (CINCS, MATER, DESEAS, ADIOS, BIODEEP, HERMES, HERMIONE, REDECO, MERAMED, MARBEF, DEEPSETS, MANUELA, etc.). He has participated in over 30 oceanographic expeditions with a variety of research vessels (PHILIA, METEOR, AEGAEO, GARCIA DEL CID, URANIA, SARMIENTO DE GAMBOA, MARIA S. MERIAN etc.), in many of which acting as the chief scientist. His research interests range widely from the ecology of marine organisms to large scale patterns and the effects of anthropogenic and climate impacts on the marine environment. To date, the majority of his research has focused upon advancing meiofauna research in the understudied Eastern Mediterranean, particularly in the deep-sea, emphasizing on biodiversity patterns of marine nematodes. He is a member of several scientific committees (SSPMS, EU evaluator etc.) and has served as the Chairperson of the International Association of Meiobenthologists between 2010 and 2013. Besides his research activities he has also taught classes at the University of Crete, both at the undergraduate and postgraduate level and has supervised 12 MSc and 4 PhD theses.
Dr. Lampadariou has published more than 90 articles and reports of which 49 are in peer-reviewed international journals (h-index 17, >1000 citations) including Nature and Plos One. Some selected publications are reported below:
