Dr. George Triantafyllou: Mathematician-Oceanographer, Modeller. George is a Research Director at HCMR - Institute of Oceanography, and currently the Principal Investigator (PI) of 6 projects. He holds a PhD in Oceanography (1990) from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, after his MSc in Oceanography (1988) and BSc in Mathematics from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has been involved in many significant projects as Coordinator (CLAIM-H2020) and as PI (indicatively, MFSPP, MFSTEP, AEGEAN, INSEA, MEECE, OPEC, SEAMAN, OSAQUA (active), BRIDGE-BS (active), EMOD-PACE, GOLDEN SEAL (active), NECCTON (active), BlueAquaEdu (active), INSPIRE (active)) in terms of budget, scientific soundness and products’ quality, while he has been participated in numerous other International and National projects (indicatively, SARONIKOS, AQUA-PLANNER, EUROCEANS, ECOOP, SARDONE, REPROdUCE, ADAMANT(N), TAPAS-IO, CLIMAFISH, NAUTILOS (active)) His research interests include the development and implementation of numerical schemes and management tools for coastal and oceanic marine areas through hydrodynamic – ecological models, data assimilation and operational marine ecosystems modelling, marine ecosystem management, marine pollutant models (oil spills and marine litter prediction and prevention), nonlinear prediction, climate change, development, application of individual based models (IBM) for small pelagic fish (anchovy and sardine), and aquaculture modelling. He co-authored more than 100 scientific articles (in peer-reviewed journals and book series), and his stockpile at HCMR further includes innovative and market-oriented products and services.
