Dr. Tsangaris is a marine ecotoxicologist with over 15 years of experience in the assessment of pollution and stress effects in marine organisms. Her work focuses on the biological effects of contaminants, the use of biomarkers, bioassays, and pollutant bioaccumulation to evaluate ecosystem health. Her research includes the study of marine litter and microplastics, addressing their ecological implications. She is actively involved as principal investigator or team leader in numerous EU and national projects focused on the Mediterranean Sea, dealing with issues such as chemical contamination, marine litter, microplastics, and environmental monitoring of coastal marine waters (e.g. MIRAMAR-INTERREG EURO MED, iMermaid-EU, One Blue-EU, INDICIT II-EU, PLASTIC BUSTERS MPAs-INTERREG MED, MEDREGION-EU, INDICIT-EU, MEDSEALITTER-INTERREG MED, DeFishGear-INTERREG, CLEANSEA-EU, SCALES-EU, PERSEUS-IP, MYTIMED-INTEREGG, BEEP-EU). She also contributes to the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) both at national and European levels and currently coordinates Descriptor 9 (Contaminants in seafood) under Greeceās MSFD National monitoring Programme. She has authored more than 100 scientific publications in journals, books, conference proceedings and technical reports, 50 of which in peer-reviewed journals. She serves as a reviewer in several peer-reviewed journals.
