Dr. Christos Tsabaris is a Research Director at the Institute of Oceanography of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR). He received his PhD in Experimental Nuclear Physics from the National Technical University of Athens, in collaboration with the Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM-JRC), Belgium. The thesis work focused on the study of (n, α) and (n, p) reactions for the isotopes of 27Al, 58Ni and 63Cu. Since 2000, he has been working at HCMR on issues of radioactivity in the marine environment and one of his technological achievements is the development and implementation of autonomous underwater radioactivity sensors (KATERINA and GeoMAREA). He is also responsible for the Marine Environmental Radioactivity Laboratory of HCMR, which joined the “XENOKRATIS” network of the Greek Atomic Energy Commission and the “ALMERA” network of the International Atomic Energy Agency. He has implemented, together with his collaborators, outreach programs for HCMR, such as the Researcher’s Evening, coordinated educational programs such as MedEDUC, and participated in research festivals in Attica and Kastelorizo. Dr. Christos Tsabaris has over 125 publications with the review process and the citations made to his works are over 2000. He has participated in national and European projects and has presented work at several national and international conferences/workshops. He has been an invited speaker, reviewer in international scientific journals and in proposal evaluation. He was also awarded as a valuable reviewer for 2010 in the journal Applied Radiation and Isotopes. Regarding the administrative work, he was the chairman of the scientific council of the IO-HCMR for four years, Chair of the Hellenic Nuclear Physical Society and a member of an advisory committee within the framework of United Nations programs. Recently, Dr. Christos Tsabaris was included in the list of Stanford University in the United States with the "Top 2% Scientists of the World" for 2023.
