Position: Technical Scientist Under Contract
Expertise: Chemist
Department: Marine Chemistry
Premises: athens
Eleni Rousselaki is a chemist oceanographer. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) in 2004 and completed her Master’s studies in Oceanography, also at NKUA, in 2008. Her PhD thesis, titled “Biogeochemical processes and fluxes of nutrients and ions in coastal, pelagic, and extreme marine environments,” mainly focused on nitrogen and phosphorus diagenetic processes (2024).
Eleni has extensive experience in nutrient and oxygen analysis in seawater. Since 2009, she has been working in the certified Nutrients Laboratory, Institute of Oceanography, performing chemical analyses of seawater samples for nutrients and dissolved oxygen, while complying with ISO/IEC 17025 standards for analytical laboratories. Her responsibilities include method validation, data analysis, and results reporting.
As part of her oceanographic work, Eleni has participated in numerous sea-going expeditions under various research projects, accumulating over two years at sea in marine regions such as the Aegean Sea, Ionian Sea, Red Sea, and Black Sea.

Her research focuses on nutrient cycling, eutrophication, and oxygen dynamics in coastal and pelagic environments, as well as the environmental status assessment of Eastern Mediterranean coastal waters.
