Dr. Ioanna Kalantzi holds a BSc in Chemistry (2002), an MSc in Environmental Sciences (2004) and a PhD in Marine Biology and Chemistry (2013). She is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Oceanographyin the field of “Ecotoxicology, biological effects of pollution and bioaccumulation of metals” at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) – Institute of Oceanography (IO) since 2022. Her work has contributed to the understanding of human risk assessment through the consumption of fish and seafood and the bioaccumulation, bioavailability and trophic transfer of contaminants, such as metals, elements, POPs, microplastics, nanoplastics and nanoparticles, in the marine environment (seawater, sediment) and in marine organisms(fish, benthos, plankton), on speciation analysis of metals andthe aquaculture ecosystem interactions. She has been involved in several RTD projects (national and EU funded) focused on the anthropogenic impacts on the marine environment, the marine organisms, the human nutrition and the atmosphere and on the interactions of the environment with aquaculture, such as Water Framework Directive, AQUACOSM, TAPAS, POSEIDOMM, AQUA-NANO.
