Konstantinos Kalaentzis is a research fellow working at the Hydrobiological Station of Rhodes of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR).

Konstantinos is focused on the study of biological invasions and the detection of new NIS utilising citizen-science initiatives. He has a strong background in genetics and genomics; particularly in DNA Barcoding, target enrichment by sequence capture and eDNA analysis. 

He received his BSc (hons) in Biology from the Department of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where he focused in Population Genetics. During that time, he also completed an internship in broodstock management at AquaLabs (HCMR) in Heraklion and an Erasmus+ traineeship in Conservation Genetics in Royal Zoological Society of Scotland in Edinburgh. After his military service, he then received his MSc (cum laude) in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology from Leiden University, focusing on Hybrid Zone Analysis and Genomics of the aquatic salamander genus Ommatotriton, with a grant from Onassis Foundation. Since 2022, he has participated in research projects in the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research, namely DRESSAGE, DIASFALISI,CCMRI. Konstantinos currently studies for a PhD in Biology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki focusing on Mega Barcoding in arthropods.
