Position: Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Expertise: Chemist
Department: Marine Chemistry
Premises: athens
Dr. Argyro Adamopoulou graduated from the Oceanography Department of the University of the Aegean and obtained her International Master of Science in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (EMBC) from the University of Ghent and Pierre and Marie Curie University (Paris 6).
She earned her PhD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Her doctoral research focused on assessing the extent of microplastic pollution in the Greek seas, investigating the various types of microplastic polymers, and improving and experimenting with methods for microplastic sampling and analytical detection. She also emphasizes sharing her findings with stakeholders and the public through publications and conferences.

She received a grant from the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I) for her PhD research. During her PhD, she received one personal grant and one research project grant from the EuroMarine Research Network as an early-career researcher. Her research project, titled “Harm~Plast: Harmonised Spectral Analysis for Environmentally Weathered Plastics,” led to collaborations with research institutions in the USA, Italy, and Belgium.

Dr. Adamopoulou's primary research focuses on marine pollution caused by organic contaminants, specifically polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), as well as microplastics. She has participated in various national and European research projects, including EMODnet, NewSTHEPS, MSFD, MARRE, DEFISHGEAR, PLASTIC BUSTERS MPAs, CLAIM, and DOORs.
Dr. Adamopoulou has authored 18 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
