Position: Functional Scientific personnel
Expertise: Physicist Oceanographer
Department: Ocean Physics
Premises: athens
Dr. Eng. Aristides Prospathopouloswas graduated from the School of Mechanical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and received a PhD diploma in Underwater Acoustics from the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of the same university.

He is an Associate Researcher in the Institute of Oceanography of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), where he is working for 20 years. His current research interests are related with mathematical modelling and simulation of underwater acoustic propagation and scattering, underwater noise and adverse effects to marine life, and marine renewable energy environmental aspects. His work experience is characterized by the following activities: national representative in TG Noise (E.U. technical expert group for underwater noiserelated to Marine Strategy Framework Directive); mathematical modelling of acoustic field in ocean waveguides and software development for problems of three-dimensional acoustic wave propagation and scattering in the ocean environment;implementation of numerical wave models for open sea / coastal areas and for sediment transport in the coastal zone; statistical analysis of wave data; software development for automated qualitative and quantitative analysis of radioactivity spectra in the marine environment.

He has more than 25 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and conferences with more than 200 citations (Scopus).

He has participated in numerous international and national projects. He is editor of the Oceanography and Fisheries Open Access Journal, while he has been a reviewer in “The Open Ocean Engineering Journal”, the International Offshore-Ocean and Polar Engineering Conference (ISOPE) and the International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering (OMAE). He has also been a member of Organization Committees for international conferences, workshops and summer schools dealing with ocean observing systems as well as climate variability and predictability. He has been invited as a speaker fromthe E.U. (WG GES), theGeotechnical Chamber of Greece and the University of Aegean, Dept. of Marine Science.

He is a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece and the Hellenic Institute of Acoustics.
