Dr. Theodore D. Kanellopoulos graduated with a B.Sc. degree in Geology at the University of Athens in 1996. He started his scientific studies with a scholarship from the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) and earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies at the University of the Aegean in 2003. The title of his Ph.D. Thesis is “Study of the modern sedimentation and the geochemistry of the coastal area influenced by the Evros River, NE Greece”. From 2006 to 2008, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Geography of Harokopio University, Greece; his PostDoc study is entitled “Authigenic carbonate mineral formation in Greek paleolakes during the latest Pleistocene”.

His main scientific areas of interest are sedimentology of coastal and open seas, mineralogy of marine sediments, geochemistry of heavy metals, paleogeography, physical oceanography and marine particles dynamics.

He has participated in a large number of scientific programmes and survey cruises, he was the Vice President of the 12th Symposium on Oceanography & Fisheries and a member of the Board of the Association of HCMR Researchers.
