KONSTANTINOS PARINOS
Position: Senior Researcher
Expertise: Marine Chemist
Department: Marine Chemistry
Premises: athens
Dr. Constantine Parinos is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Oceanography of the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research. He holds a Ph.D in Chemistry, an M.Sc in Chemical, Environmental and Computational Technology – Simulation and a B.Sc in Chemistry. His research interests focus on the study of the biogeochemical cycle of organic carbon (natural and anthropogenic) and processes triggering and controlling organic matter production, transfer and fate in the water column (suspended and settling particulate matter) and marine sediments, as recorded in the chemical structures and abundance of lipid biomarkers. Focus is given on the: (a) coupling of atmospheric dynamics with ocean biochemistry; (b) understanding of the dynamics of thermal circulation and the biogeochemical processes that determine the distribution of organic chemical compounds in the water column; (c) anthropogenic imprint in deep water / deep basins, and (d) connection of environmental parameters (essential ocean variables) with climate variability / change. He has been/is currently involved as a researcher in 31 international and national projects. He is HCMR PI for “E.N.I.R.I.S.S.T. - Intelligent Research Infrastructure for Shipping, Supply Chain, Transport and Logistics”. He has been Project Coordinator of the environmental impact assessment “Study of the short- and medium term environmental consequences of the sinking of the Agia Zoni II tanker on the marine ecosystem of the Saronikos Gulf”. He has published 26 articles in peer reviewed scientific journals, 2 book chapter and 93 in conference/international meetings/workshops proceedings.
