Since 2015 Eleni Tzempelikou is a research associate at the Institute of Oceanography with research interest in the chemical processes of trace metals in water column and marine pollution. 

She is a PhD candidate in Environmental Chemistry at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and her dissertation focuses on the study of the chemical behavior of trace metals in the marine environment with emphasis on seasurface film.
